Important Info for Students Taking Diploma Exam Courses

Dear students,

This information is for students taking grade 12 diploma exam courses this semester.  All other students may disregard this announcement.

As you probably know, Alberta Education has made diploma exams optional through the end of this school year.  No announcement has been made that this exemption will continue into the 2021-2022 school year.  This decision is made by Alberta Education and the school has no say on this matter.

If you may not finish your course by June and are planning to use the summer extension to complete your course, please note the following important information:

-The Covid Diploma Exam exemption is for marks finalized and submitted to Alberta Education by August at this time.

-Students that use SCcyber's extension period, ending Sept. 24, will be required to write the diploma exam in November or January, unless Alberta Education announces that they are continuing the opt-out (which I personally think is unlikely with the recent positive reduction of Covid case numbers and vaccinations on track).

-Technically, summer extension marks are part of the next school year because they are submitted in September.  Since SCcyber is closed for the summer, we do not submit marks in August.  Therefore, to take advantage of the opt-out, students need to finalize their courses by noon on June 23 or by the date of their partner site deadline if earlier than June 23, such as Sunchild school marks that are due June 18.

Please check with your mentor, or contact me, if you have any questions or concerns.

Blessings as you continue to work hard towards your diploma,

Mrs. Kam
